"We see the world in three dimensions. The flat surface has two dimensions.
Each work, each autonomous element demands how to react to this encounter.
In every action the dynamic between material, my hands and eyes define a unity: what do they know. I construct, and reduce ... in time, until a simplicity that catches this."

Aimée Terburg
- contextualist, a visual artist with a process-driven, reductive approach.
She constructs and reduces until a clear simplicity, highlighting the context of material and immaterial perception.

Murals, paintings, drawings and site-responsive installations

Terburg catches subtle shifts in perception to slow down and intensify the perceiving. Her research into the process of making, material, abstract art genres and (trans)cultural structures function as working tools, like brushes or pencils. The challenge of engaging in time-limited painting, or time-absorbing drawing techniques are questioned actions how to coincide the personal and general nature of things, thoughts, time and techniques.

The making centers around the dynamic of (de)validating inner and outer conditions, essentializing the experience of perception as her voice. Terburg creates abstract senses of place on paper, canvas, and walls. In recent years her focus is on site-responsive murals and installations that resonate with herself, the making process, and spatial surrounding or history / ourstory. Almost to be finished by the viewer.
