The Spring Exhibition 2014 is shown at the same time as a presentation of the work of the American artist Kerry James Marshall. This year the exhibition area has therefore been reduced and as a result the jury of Charlottenborg Fonden have been even more rigorous in making their selection from the submitted entries:
a total of 696 artists submitted works for The Spring Exhibition 2014. Of these, 49 were invited to show a total of 73 works.

150 years ago, in 1857, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen decided to establish a self-supporting exhibition committee that was independent of the Academy of Fine Arts. It was to be responsible for the annual Spring Exhibition at Charlottenborg Palace. This marked the beginning of the institution now called Charlottenborg Fonden. Ever since 1857, the Fund has been responsible for the Spring Exhibition. From the outset, the most important aim of the Fund has been to promote and support art – especially recent works.
Over the years it has included early works by such renowned international figures as Alvar Aalto, Per Kirkeby, Olafur Eliasson, Kirstine Roepstorff and many others.
