| Thanks to the support of Kunstraad Groningen, open call 'Lucht', and preparing and organizing this idea during support of Mondriaan Fund, it was possible to start renovating Kunstprojecten Noorderstation (Zuidoost) before creating the wallpainting Murallarum. Murallarum, a palindromic title, refers to the unavoidable walking up and down the stairs of the former staircase to the railway platform. The mural is a reaction to the space itself with its turn of the staircase, meaning to make the visitor aware of moving up or down the stairs and to experience the space differently through the pattern of color. Murallarum is a project and different phases can be seen until Sept 12th. It is visible 24/7 through the windows of the entree at the ground floor and at floor level of railway platform 1. In the evening a play of colored light is scheduled between 20.00 and 0.00 hr that changes the appearance of Murallarum. The space can be visited on Friday - Sunday between 16.00 - 20.00 hr. Friday I will be working, and in the weekend Murallarum is an exhibition. |

Subtle shifts in perception create an interaction between viewer and work, highlighting the moment of perception and motion. Painting versus sculpture; the angle of the paintings changes the reflection between the surfaces of the vertical diptychs, enhancing the shifts in perception. |

| The sunsets in the comic series 'Lucky Luke' (Morris, 1923 - 2001, Belgium), actual skygazing in Texas, gradients of digital color pickers, different meanings of the chevron sign, art genres Color Field or Hard Edge: in this series they all exist parallel in the dynamic of Aimée Terburg's painting process. It is her encounter of 'maker - surface - object' where it leads to a simplicity that catches this. In this series of paintings Terburg atypically glazes opaque layers of acrylic, a fast-drying paint, only using matte tints of red, yellow and blue in multiple one-hit layers. In the limited time frame she glazes a tint per corner, the first on a black underlayer, leaving no brush markings at first sight. This results in a surface where the colors blend on the canvas, enhanced by the black underlayer shining through. Unpainted colors optically emerge, the sides of the painting reveal the technique, and the chevron pattern in varnish directs the reflection of light. As the viewer moves or surrounding light conditions alter, color nuances change and the pattern appears or disappears. The subtle shifts in perception create an interaction between viewer and work, highlighting the moment of perception itself. |
